Integrating an engine oil cooler

A car with that shape and sporty look should have more than the standard 87 HP or 109 HP. So I decided to implement a 2000 ccm 131 HP engine into the Zagato.

Looking at the small air inlet for the radiator I thought an engine oil cooler might be a good idea.

From the beginning it was clear that the appearance of the car should not be disturbed by an oil cooler mounted underneath the front bumper. So I had to find another spot for the device.

I remembered that the famous GTA coupes prepared by Autodelta had their oil cooler mounted next to the radiator. So I started to measure and think and rethink until I had an idea: Dismantle the battery bracket, weld an air guiding panel into the front structure and cut a hole into the lower front panel to allow air into the funnel.

Seen from the drivers position the place for the oil cooler is to the left of the radiator. Battery bracket is dismantled and the air guiding panel is already welded into the front structure. Funnel air intake small (8217 bytes)
Air intake grid small (6516 bytes) Air intake in the lower front panel. After cutting the hole into the panel I welded a grid (cut out of the front hood of a FIAT 131 Supermirafiori) into the panel.

A SETRAB oil cooler now fits to the left of the radiator and cooling air can reach it by entering through the lower front panel. The oil cooler is screwed on brackets to the chassis.

The battery bracket was made new and screwed to the chassis a little bit further towards the fire wall .

The modification can hardly be seen. Here the air intake grid is only visible because the Zagato is standing on a car- lift. Car lift small (7066 bytes)
