Why I was looking for a garage

As everyone knows, restoring a car is a challenging but fulfilling job - yeah I know not always...

But in general I think we all love our rusty hobby. When I bought my Zagato back in 1983 I was young, money was tight and I did everything on my various cars on an autodidactic basis. Over the years my skills grew and I had plenty of fun with my other car which is an Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1300, built in 1971. Although I was swearing sometimes over rusted bolts or tricky to reach components I was never thinking of giving my Giulia or Zagato to a professional workshop until the day I went to a doctor...

I was diagnosed with a severe illness and spent the last year in hospital. Suddenly I had to change my whole life planning and completing the work on my Zagato on a makeshift-basis was not possible anymore.

Welding and grinding are jobs that are not really designed for the handicapped. I had to make the decision whether to sell the car in parts or to let professionals do the work which is too strenuous for me. I decided to look for a garage specialized in restoring fine old cars.

How I found a garage

Once the decision was made I posted an ad in an oldtimer magazine and as one of the several replies I received a fax from a small garage specialized in restoring pre- and postwar DKW and Citroen.

The garage is very close to my home and I decided to give them a ring. We made an appointment and the very friendly owner Arne together with his master of the workshop Karsten showed up at my home.

Very quickly it was clear that they are very professional and dedicated to the job. Both are owning and driving oldtimers and we were talking the same language.

Why I can recommend Mobilitäten

To cut a long story short they received my order and I can honestly say that I'm very happy with their work. The whole job was described in various steps. After each step I received the bill for the step undertaken so that I had also financial control over the project. I had access to their workshop during working hours in order to discuss work that needed to be done and to see the progress.

I can fully recommend their work, everything was done to the best standards and never a situation occurred which was tricky or needed further discussion.

They are very well equipped and apart from spraying or surface coating like chroming everything is done in-house. Restoration of interior parts like seats or carpets is done by experts they have on hand.

What range of service are they offering

Mobilitäten is caring for old cars - there is no strict date line but the Volkswagen you bought brand new four years ago is not the breed they care for. The older or rarer a car-the better.

They are doing mainly ground up or partial restorations of car bodies. Sandblasting, welding and reproduction of hard to get body-parts is their specialty. Spraying is done by affiliated workshops. Mechanical overhauling of axles, gears or steering is done in-house and if needed also by affiliated specialists.
