These Zagato bodied coupes are about as bespoke as an Italian car comes. Finished in classic red with black leather, specification includes a 1,600cc twin cam engine breathing through twin Weber carburetors, 5 speed manual gearbox, Campagnolo alloy wheels, electric vent rear tail gate, heated rear screen, period radio, wooden steering wheel, black carpet set and period seat belts.

When we first clapped eyes on this one owner example we were simply stunned at the originality of the car. At some point over the last few years it has had a good quality respray, but to all intents and purposes it is almost exactly the car that rolled off the production line in 1973. There are no signs of corrosion in the bodywork and the paint finish is deep and even in colour across the car. There are no real stone chips, dents or marks to speak of and the matt black edging inside the shuts all looks as it should have done from the factory.

The underside of the car is very good as well. There are no obvious signs that it has been tampered with over the years to get it through its annual Swiss checks with black underseal that is thick enough to protect but not so clagged on that you think it might be hiding something. Jacking points, sills, and suspension pick ups all seem in good solid condition. The exterior trim, perspex and lights are original items and are all present and correct, but have aged with the car, the brightwork is steel so has a matt finish rather than the shiny chrome you see on the earlier 105 cars. In all this is a stunning example of a very rare car in any condition!

This Junior Zagato is fitted with a correct set of Campagnolo alloy wheels. These are clothed in a nearly new set of Dunlop SP Sport tyres with a 195/60 R14 profile. The spare in the boot seems to have hardly ever been used and is sporting what looks like a 30 odd year old tyre! (I wonder if it is the original!!) As you can see from the pictures all of the wheels are in good condition, and have not needed to be refurbished being free from unsightly marks and, therefore, have the correct period finish.

As with the body work the seats have had a refresh at some point in their life, with the period vinyl making way for real leather! Apart from that though the interior is stock Zagato straight from the 70s. The plastics, door cards, headlining and carpets are all original and in good order. We particularly like the Zagato branded over mats! There is a working period AM radio, set of 5 Jaeger dials showing speed, revs, volts, oil pressure and temperature which are all in good working order. One of the coolest features of this stunning little car is the rear hatchback which can be opened with a switch on the dash to provide extra ventilation (Something that was very welcome in todays 29 degree heat!) Drivers under 6 foot will find that there is plenty of room and adjustment in the super comfortable seats and those over just need to recline the seat and drive it like a single seater!

This Alfa Romeo 1600 Junior Zagato is chassis number 0156 of a total production of 402 vehicles. Manufactured on 5th April 1973 it was sold in Florence, Italy on 22 May 1973 and was first registered on 29 May 1973 to a distinguished Swiss gentleman from Locarno, on the Swiss-Italian border, who kept it until the end of last year. It has covered 104,617km (65,000 miles) from new and has clearly been fastidiously maintained and carefully driven. This mileage is supported by Swiss annual records. It comes with a rare original factory handbook (one currently for sale on Zagato’s website for £400!) and stamped Swiss history booklet, although in keeping with usual Swiss practice, there are no service invoices. The car has been fully inspected in our workshop and will be supplied with a fresh MOT.

***EU DUTY HAS BEEN PAID ON THIS VEHICLE SO THE CAR CAN BE REGISTERED ANYWHERE INSIDE THE EU WITHOUT FURTHER COST***
